As jazz pianist, Laura Caviani’s recordings have received such praise as “piano trio jazz of the highest order” from Downbeat contributor Bob Protzman, “stunningly fresh” from JazzTimes magazine, and “in a word, outstanding” from the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

As composer, her commissions range from JAZZAX Sax Quartet to the Kansas City Symphony Orchestra. She has received two Subito Grants from the American Composers Forum (2005 and 2009), one to complete her CD Going There, and the other to study with composer Libby Larsen. Through ACF, she also had the opportunity to study with JoAnne Brackeen at the Atlantic Center for the Arts (‘97), and in Japan at the Akiyoshidai International Art Village. (‘98)

Caviani holds a bachelors of music in Composition from Lawrence University and a masters of music in Improvisation from The University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. As a dedicated educator, she is also currently on faculty at Carleton College and St. Olaf College, both in Northfield, MN.
